There's a bit of desync but it works
its still in development so other people are still choppy when moving and crash physics aren't that good but i mean it's still MULTIPLAYER!

Does it actually send the data of every single note? Can you crash into other people?
sadly not yet but there will be some damage to the other cars. You can see your damage but the other person can only see there damage, but sometimes you can see them both which is way more fun
Not really it basically just teleports the location of the other person's vehicle to the same position in your game.
That’s not much better than the “multiplayer” system the devs showed off a while ago, it’s just that we can use this one.
It's multiseat, but the add-on makes the game think it (the add-on) is a controller. So, the add-on gets input data from another player, via BeamNG-MP's servers. The add-on then turns that info into controller data for BeamNG. Effectively emulating a controller.
It's an old idea. Like [this old](https://discord.gg/ncwhUUG). Noticed how I made that discord, but could never get the word out, because no one would listen. Although, my idea was to use parsec or nvidia game stream, rather than this fancy new add-on.
Tl;Dr, you aren't connecting to a server, your pc is hosting a multiseat game with this emulated controller.

On the discord server you can go into the support and type in -new for modes to help you. That's what I did when I couldn't find the Download and get it to work
It's multiseat, but it streams your controller input to their servers, that then forward that onto the other players.
It's a neater version of the thing I made last year, that died.

Edit: Before you downvote, listen to this: it is basically multiseat. Only, all machines are host machines, and instead of a physical controller, there's an add-on that teleports a car around, as if there was another controller connected to your pc.

Now, having said that, we have known for quite some time that rudimentary multiplayer is possible. Rigs of Rods for example had such a rudimentary multiplayer system which worked only with a few vehicles, vehicles did not move smoothly, the wheels were not soft body and there was no proper collision. So we know that if we reduce our standards by a lot, such a rudimentary "multiplayer" is possible.
The thing is that we are not interested in that. What we are interested is smooth multiplayer with a lot of vehicles with full collisions and everything being softbody (including wheels). And this is hard, extremely hard. So hard that we have been doing research on that for many years to move the state of the art so that it might become possible at some point in the future.
To give an indication, a simple deflate like this mod does, can compress up to 2x the nodes. Our current replay system can reach up to 10x compression rates (we used replay to do some experimentation). Our research shows that that up to 20-40x real time compression rates might be possible, which would allow to have fluid motion transfer with more than 2 vehicles and with typical connection bandwidths.
And all of above is just scratching the surface of the complexity of the problem, as there are complex problems to solve in all of the stages of the pipeline, traffic shaping on the connection (to avoid problems like bufferbloat), time merging/extrapolation on both the client and the server, adaptive compression, and the list goes on.
Doing all this work and knowing how hard it is, we also know that it is a false expectation to believe that a simplistic solution can be incrementally improved to become a fully fledged one. If one tries to do that, he'll be faced with a large "gap" at some point that cannot be surpassed with small incremental steps, and we have been staring into this abysmal gap for a long time to understand this fact.
Have you thought about a multiplayer experience where players can interact without actually driving together?
I'm thinking about finding certain objects/checkpoints on a map. Especially on large exploration maps that would be nice in my opinion.
(i just bought the game, so i have no experience whatsoever on whether that would be ideally done by mods. i seriously like the "just drive" experience right now, wish you the best!)
We have thought about ghost (no collision) multiplayer as we call it. It can be used in a number of different gameplay scenarios.
The problem that we have is that at any one moment there are 100s of cool ideas that we can follow, but not enough people to work on them. So we are trying to focus on finishing the things that we've promised and to prepare the ground for all the cool ideas that we are looking into.
The devs of this mod said that there trying to figure out about the soft body situation but I think if you guys work together multiplayer may be a thing before we no it
Looks like a jankey solution. might be fun to mess with for a bit but laggy cars, no crashes, and not seeing others damage is a meh from me. but i hope to see it get better in the future.

Why is there not a thread about this on the official forum? Why is the only link in the thread a shady-ass chatroom? Why does the title just say "someone made"? Do they not want credit? Why doesn't the chat UI match the UI in the rest of the game?

Looking through the code, an immediate red flag is that they're breaching the GPL. All their own files have a header that forbids editing and redistribution, but they bundle libdeflate which is GPLv3.
Meh who cares its multiplayer something we wanted for so long. Licenses hold us back.
And that's why it's a great vector for malware.

Devs say they will not do multiplayer nor will they put people in the game. Modders say \***hold my beer.**\* Parsec was an interesting idea, but it's a screen share. With what I have seen in this mod, each player is seeing both cars on their own screen in their own game, as proper multiplayer should be. Yes, this is ugly right now, but it will only get better. By the time BeamNG is ever released officially, multiplayer will be a bullet in the list of features. Maybe actual drivers/npcs will be featured, too. We can only hope, dream, and rely on modders for now.
And for beamng devs to export it into the game themselves
Please tell me you can use your own custom vehicles, otherwise I'm not gonna bother.
Edit: And I would assume that the user's IP isn't even protected, which means someone could pull someones IP and boot them offline/doxx their location.

You guys sadly cant play on your own maps unless you guys found the code to create the server because the only have west coast USA, Utah USA, Grid map, and Italy for now. And yes you can okay with your friends. They are making more maps for people to play on but for now it's only them

Nothing is ever impossible but it can be too much work to justify it. There have to be priorities because of time and money and the devs have chosen to put their resources into other things that improve the game.
And the devs of this mod will improve it so it will be smooth and have registers crashes
